Skimmer dad


OK, folks. Here is Skimmer painting #1.
I discovered: A. I don't own black paint. B. First attempt with micaceous oxide (sort of black) looked like a blob C. Persevere!
But, I sort of like this guy. His quirkiness is captured, I think.

Looks good but should be squatter -- shorter neck, longer bill. I think bill has black on it.

I adore this guy...I often wonder why we imagine that a painting 'should be' a photograph...a painting is a painting...an outpicture of all sorts o' mysteries coming together and combining to hopefully show us something that we've not seen before..this little skimmer guy has personality and how terrific that you invented a way to make the colors that you have work...

Wonderful Susan! I agree with paintings as interpretation, not necessarily photo-like. Makes me want to go to the beach!

thanks for all the comments; I like to paint "gesturally"; capturing the essence rather than the photographic image...
